BARBELL BRIGADE, BY 1ST PHORM

(*SEE VIDEO EXPLANATION AT BOTTOM)

FORMAT

Strength Event - 7 minute cap to complete the following at preferred weights:

  • 30 snatches (any position)

  • 20 thrusters

  • 10 cleans (any position)

Same-sex teams: Athletes split reps any way they want (each athlete must do one of each lift, but outside of that anything goes), and select weights for each lift. Once a successful lift has been completed, the weight for that lift must remain throughout. Athletes must complete all lifts from one category before moving onto the next and must complete in the order listed above.

Coed teams: Athletes have their own barbells and split reps 50/50 (female does half, male does half). Athletes may complete those reps in any fashion (ex: male does 15 then female does 15, or i-go-you-go - anything works as long as work is split in half). Once a successful lift has been completed, the weight for that lift (on that respective barbell) must remain throughout. Athletes must complete all lifts from one category before moving onto the next and must complete in the order listed above. Barbells are NOT interchangeable - males may NOT lift the female barbell if they’re failing at their own barbell.

Details: 3, 2, 1…athletes will prep barbell with weight, state weight to judges before lifting, and either athlete may begin first attempt at snatch. Once a successful lift is done, that weight is locked in for the remainder of that lift. Upon completion of snatches, athletes may modify weight, again state weight to judges, then begin thrusters. Upon completion of thrusters, athletes may again modify weight, state weight to judges, and begin cleans. This event is capped at 7 minutes - there are no penalties for finishing early, and no extra reps are permitted. If not all reps are completed within the 7 minute, athletes fail to capture that weight (pounds) lifted, which will be reflected in the final score.

Score: Total weight lifted (measured in lbs)

Questions we anticipate:

Can we go back and forth with attempts?

  • yes

If I fail my first lift can I modify weight?

  • For same-sex teams, if you are the first to lift and you fail, the weight can be changed. Once a lift is successful, it’s locked in. For coed teams, once each athlete has successfully lifted their barbell their weight is locked in - if the male fails his lift but the female was successful, he can still change weight until a successful attempt.

If I pause or redip on my thruster, or catch with super bent arms on my snatch does it count?

  • no - please adhere to standards noted so you’re clear on the expectations for a good rep

STANDARDs

thruster: rep begins on the floor - athlete pulls from floor and catches rep in front rack. Athlete is permitted to squat clean to begin rep OR clean and begin thruster from standing position. Athlete descends to show hip crease below top of knee (below 90 degrees), and rep is complete when athlete ascends to shows full extension of knees, hips and elbows with control at the top and ears between or in front of arms (head through the window - do NOT bring down before showing control and judge confirming completion). The thruster movement must be smooth with no pause and no re-dip.

snatch: rep begins on the floor - athlete pulls from floor and catches rep in an overhead snatch position (power or squat are acceptable), and rep is complete when athlete ascends to show full extension of knees, hips and elbows with control at the top adn ears between or in front of arms (head through the window - do not bring down before showing control and judge confirming completion). Snatch must be caught above the top of head (a small bend then press out is fine, but if barbell isn’t above head at catch it’s a no-rep). AGAIN, PLEASE NOTE THAT EVERY REP COMES FROM THE FLOOR!

clean: rep begins on the floor - athlete pulls from floor and catches rep in front rack. Athlete is permitted to squat clean OR power clean. Athlete ascends to shows full extension of knees and hips, and elbows slightly in front of barbell - do NOT bring down before showing control and judge confirming completion). AGAIN, PLEASE NOTE THAT EVERY REP COMES FROM THE FLOOR!

***YOU MUST MAINTAIN CONTROL OF YOUR BARBELL THROUGHOUT THIS EVENT - IF AT ANY TIME YOU EXHIBIT LACK OF CONTROL THAT PUTS YOURSELF OR OTHERS IN DANGER, JUDGES RESERVE THE RIGHT TO NO-REP
